Once Known Native American Carver

Carvings of this style were made by Hopi as gifts for young children as well as for sale to non-Hopi. They were easy to carve due to the lack of body detail such as no individual legs or feet as well as having the arms tucked against the body rather than away from the body.

These dolls were very popular with the tourist trade and have become very collectible partly because they are very affordable. This Warrior Katsina doll probably dates to the periods before 1960 as the paint does not appear to be acrylic. The carving is in excellent condition.
