Betty Sabo was one of Carl Von Hassler’s students. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in the 1950s and has gone on to receive numerous awards and commissions not only in New Mexico but across the country.
This winter scene is one of her early pieces. She has captured the gray slate of the sky and the traditional adobe architecture of New Mexico. In this piece, Ms. Sabo uses color to create the feeling of a cold winter day contrasted against the inviting warmth of the adobe houses.
The piece is a great example of one of New Mexico’s best known artists. It is in excellent condition. Undated.
Provenance: Exhibited at the “Santa Fe Tribute to Carl Von Hassler” June 2009 at adobe gallery santa fe.
