Another great artist to come out of the Santa Fe Indian School, José (Joe) Herrera was the son of Tonita Peña. At the age of 16 he was commissioned to paint murals for the Santa Fe Indian School and Maisels Indian Trading Post in Albuquerque, NM.

This humorous painting of two Tsia birds playing with a little worm captures Joe's creative expressions. It was done in 1942, before he went to war.
