This impressive medium-size pottery water jar from Acoma Pueblo features back-to-back birds with square orange bodies and expanded wingspreads.  This historic unsigned jar dates to circa 1940. It has a concave underside, orange lower section, and dark brown pigment and orange slip used in the design.  The jar is typical in shape and size with a high shoulder and gracefully curved neck leading up to the rim.

The design placed between placement of the birds was executed in brown pigment and consists of an arrangement of four triangles placed along the sides of a square element which, itself, contains a fine line parallel arrangement. The birds’ heads extent up to the rim and are accompanied by two-tone rain clouds.

Condition: this Acoma Pueblo Historic Polychrome Jar with Double Bird Design is in very good condition

Provenance: from the estate of Tom Dickerson, former artist and lifetime resident of Santa Fe, and avid collector of Native arts.
