This original, signed photograph of Nampeyo was printed directly from the glass plate circa 1904.  It came from Curtis’ Seattle studio. Curtis allegedly called this type a platinum print, but the possibility exists that it may be a toned silver print.  

Curtis’ description of this image comes from “The North American Indian,” Portfolio XII, #426 “The Potter”


Condition: this Original Edward S. Curtis Photograph of Hopi Pueblo Matriarch Nampeyo of Hano is in excellent original condition

Provenance: from the personal collection of Barbara Kramer, author of Nampeyo and Her Pottery.  It was published on the front cover of the book.
