Diné Artistry in Turquoise:

Navajo Nation Artist Marvin Slim and His Exquisite Craftsmanship

Crafted by Diné jeweler Marvin Slim, this pair of earrings exudes a simple yet elegant charm. Each earring features a round turquoise gemstone, distinctively greenish in hue, a characteristic less commonly seen in turquoise of the Southwest. The turquoise further displays brown striations (matrix), enhancing the allure of the earrings.

The turquoise gemstones are set against an oval backdrop of sterling silver, lending the earrings a traditional and classy appeal. Notably, one of the earrings bears the signature ‘Sterling, M S' at the bottom, marking the authenticity of the craftsmanship.

Marvin Slim, a Navajo silversmith from Torreon, NM, was brought up in Albuquerque where he learned the art of silversmithing at a young age from his mother and relatives. Today, Marvin, along with his wife Luana, originally from San Felipe Pueblo, resides in Albuquerque with their children. Together, Marvin and Luana create a wide variety of jewelry, including bolo ties, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and adjustable rings, each piece reflecting their exquisite craftsmanship.
