- Category: Traditional
- Origin: Hopi Pueblo, Hopituh Shi-nu-mu
- Medium: wood
- Size: 7-3/8” tall
- Item # C2425o SOLD
This is an example of an unfinished Katsina doll, the body of which is from a single piece of cottonwood root, the left arm has been added from another piece of cottonwood root, and the right arm has not yet been fashioned. The name of the Hopi Pueblo carver is unknown and the reason for it being incomplete is I requested to purchase it as an example of a carving in process.
Condition: unfinished
Recommended Reading: Classic Hopi and Zuni Kachina Figures by Barton Wright.
Provenance: When I purchased this carving in the 1980s, it was to be used to show clients the processes for carving a doll from cottonwood root. I failed to record the name of the carver at that time and memory does not allow me to recall his name.
