We're thrilled to present a true rarity: the first necklace and earrings set of its kind we've had in 25 years. This beautiful spider coral necklace, complete with matching earrings, features long, delicate pieces of coral at its center that gradually shorten towards the ends. It's easy to see why such pieces are so rare; the thinness of the coral makes it incredibly difficult to work with, yet the artist of this set has skillfully drilled each piece.

This stunning set was originally purchased in 1962, a time when coral was more available. In the mid-20th century, skilled Native artists began incorporating coral into innovative and creative designs. Today, high-quality coral is extremely rare due to high demand and over-harvesting.

Although it's a highly desired element in Southwestern jewelry, coral is not a stone. It's the skeletal remains of a sea animal found in warm waters. Navajo and Pueblo jewelers were first introduced to it by early Spanish traders who had obtained it from Mediterranean fishermen. Fascinated by its deep color, silversmiths and lapidary artists began integrating it into their work, creating the beautiful pieces we cherish today.
