That price—50c—helps us date this to the mid twentieth century, probably shortly after World War II.When the potter painted her chosen design on this bowl, she also painted the price which she expected to sell it for. That price, 50 cents, helps us date this to the mid twentieth century, probably shortly after World War II. That was a time when Acoma potters sat on the side of the highway on Route 66 waiting for tourists to pull over and purchase pottery.

This Acoma Pueblo pottery bowl is typical of the style made at that time, but the birds are totally different from many seen on such a bowl. These birds are black with white dots over their entire bodies. Other designs on the body of the bowl include clouds, triangles, and fine lines.
