Kee's Masterpiece: A Silver Band of Navajo Inspiration and Artistry

This wide silver band, a masterpiece by Kee, is a testament to the artist's meticulous craftsmanship and unique artistic vision. The band features a distinctive design pattern of squares, each filled with three parallel bars. Intriguingly, this configuration mirrors the artist's signature, creating a personal touch that is subtly woven into the design. The squares, alternating in horizontal and vertical positions, number 150 in total-a testament to the silversmith's attention to detail and precision.

The band's edges are polished silver, adding a sleek finish to the piece. At the top center of the band, a single deep red coral cabochon is encased in a 14-karat gold bezel, providing a striking contrast to the silver and adding a touch of elegance.

Kee's designs, deeply rooted in his Navajo heritage, are inspired by the petroglyphs adorning the canyon walls of the Navajo reservation. Born in Arizona in 1969, Kee, of Navajo and Hopi descent, majored in architectural and drafting design in college. A self-taught artist, he has been transforming these ancient images into wearable art since 1995.

His unique approach to jewelry making has earned him recognition and awards from prestigious institutions such as the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts, the Museum of Northern Arizona, and the Heard Museum, among others. This silver band is a shining example of Kee's ability to blend traditional inspiration with contemporary design, creating pieces that are both visually stunning and deeply meaningful.
