This pastel by Dan Namingha beautifully showcases the painterly quality for which he is renowned. The Pueblo is blocked in with off-white and cream pastels, with darker accents drawn into the softened areas to add depth and rhythm. Gentle smudges combined with a thick, mostly opaque application of pastel give the composition a dynamic feel, while the sky appears washed over with a solvent, creating a painted effect likely achieved with a wide tool like a palette knife. The result is a deceptively complex image, brought to life by a master's touch.
