Hanson “Moogie” Smith was born in California, and raised on the Navajo Reservation. He is of the Bitterwater Clan and learned silversmithing from his grandfather, Ambrose Oliver, and has been an active jeweler since 1995. He specializes in set stone and tufa work. He has been in numerous exhibitions including Santa Fe’s Indian Market and the Eiteljorg Indian Market in Indianapolis.

This amazing belt buckle was constructed by placing precisely cut pieces of stone, ebony and shell within channels of sterling silver. Each piece is expertly shaped and set, creating vertical layers. It is extremely well crafted and is in excellent condition. It is signed on the back with the artist’s name.


Condition: this Sterling Silver and Multi-Stone Belt Buckle is in excellent condition, all the stones are in perfect shape

Provenance: From the estate of a former client from Oregon, who had purchased it directly from the artist at the Heard Museum American Indian Show in 2005
