During the 1970s, young Native American silversmiths began to experiment with new innovative designs. They broke away from what was considered the traditional look of stamp-work and stones. Instead they strove for a sleek, modern look. This buckle was made in that style. It is beautiful and thin, with a deep grill work front that is slightly tapered. It will fit a narrow 1-inch belt. The buckle is signed on the back, “Larry B”.
A client informed us that Larry B is Larry Begay. We appreciate the assistance provided by our knowledgeable clients and their willingness to share their knowledge. It is evident by the work that he is quite an accomplished silversmith. The fabrication of grillwork is a difficult process, and this was done extremely well.
Condition: this Sterling Silver Buckle with Grill is in excellent condition
Provenance: From the estate of a former client who amassed a collection of 40 Native-made belt buckles. We have posted approximately 30 of them on our site and the remaining ones from the collection will be added as we receive them.
