"Seabourn is best known for his paintings of an old, wise Indian man's face combined with birds or animals.  He says that the face does not represent one tribe but is, instead, a composite face representing the medicine men, the keepers of the culture of all Indian tribes.  The artist has said that he is trying to show feelings and compassion through his paintings for a way of life which once was, but will never be again.

"From as early as the 1st grade, Seabourn wanted to be an artist.  He sold his first cartoon to King Features Syndicate when he was in the 8th grade.  When he was in high school, he and a friend would 'hop a freight' or hitchhike to Oklahoma City from Purcell to visit the Oklahoma Museum of Art.

"Seabourn joined the Navy during the Korean War, and although he lacked an art background, they put him to work as an illustrator.  This was the beginning of his career as an artist.  As he worked as a commercial artist/draftsman he began to explore his Indian heritage and incorporate it in his art." (The Biographical Directory of Native American Painters by Patrick D. Lester).

The three images featured here are three individual watercolor paintings that have been framed together.  If desired, they could be framed individually.  Each is very typical of Seabourn's style and each appears to be in original excellent condition. Each is signed and dated 1972.
