Vernon Begaye Hand Stamped Sterling Silver Shaman Figure Pendant with Turquoise, Lapis and Coral [SOLD]

A cabochon of high-grade turquoise set in an elegant handmade bezel forms the head of this sterling silver shaman figure by Vernon Begaye.  The body of the shaman was textured and stamped with a series of geometric designs giving the piece a unique surface on which single segments of coral and lapis were set. A single band of silver surrounds the head of the figure. The pendant hangs from a silver link chain. 

Vernon Begaye (b.1965) learned to make jewelry from his father, Jimmy Begaye. His work is characterized by a juxtaposition of traditional silverwork and contemporary lapidary work. 

This pendant comes from the estate of Marvin and Betty Rubin. They lived in Albuquerque for over 35 years, and collected Native American art, going to local Pueblos, museums and attending art fairs and markets around the country. They kept detailed records of all their purchases. Their records indicate that this pendant was purchased in 2001 at the Case Trading Post in the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe. It is signed with Vernon Begaye’s initials VAB.

Condition: the pendant is in excellent condition.
