Ladderback earrings received that name because of the stepped sections. This pair of Zuni Pueblo earrings has four sections: the top bar with two turquoise cabs, the next section with three turquoise cabs, the next with four turquoise cabs, and at the end are four pendant silver bars with round turquoise cabs at their tips. There is minimum silver work on such earrings. Most of the work was the lapidary artistry in cutting and shaping the turquoise.
