Channel inlay is a meticulous process of cutting turquoise to fit within a prearranged silver form. It takes an extraordinary lapidary artist to achieve a flawless fit, which is evident in this pair of Zuni Pueblo earrings by Frank Vacit.
The fleur-de-lis hallmark on the earrings is a mark of Zuni Pueblo artisan Frank Vacit (1915-1999). Vacit sometimes collaborated with his wife, Elizabeth Leekya Vacit (? - 2005), the daughter of Leekya Deyuse, the most famous Zuni fetish carver of all times.
Documented corporate collections of Vacit's jewelry are the Smithsonian and the Heard Museum, with many personal collections as well.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: these Zuni Pueblo Channel Inlay Turquoise Earrings by Frank Vacit are from a private collection
