Artist signature and hallmark of Porfilio Sheyka, Zuni Pueblo ArtistThis turtle is designed to be worn as a pin or a pendant. For the latter, all it needs is a silver chain. The selection of gemstones includes mother of pearl, turquoise, coral, ivory, and a dark brown selection. Each of the surfaces was etched to better resemble a turtle shell. The channel inlay lapidary work is exceptional.

The artisan, Porfilio Sheyka (1938-1982), began work as a jeweler in 1961 and continued until his death. He specialized in mosaic, channel inlay, and engraved jewelry of the style of this turtle. He was recognized with awards by the Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial, Gallup, New Mexico, and the New Mexico State Fair, Albuquerque.
