This beautifully executed pair of earrings features the face of the Sun Katsina. The outer rim is jet, the inner is mother of pearl, and the face is turquoise and spondylus shell. Each cut piece is fitted between silver strips in the process known as channel inlay. The husband-and-wife team Frederick and Denise Siutza is credited with making the earrings, based on the stamped initials FDS that appear on each earring. A thorough search of published artists does not reveal any information on these two artisans, other than they are from Zuni Pueblo. These are made for pierced ears.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: this Zuni Pueblo Multi Stone Sun Face Earrings Pair is from the collection of a client from Santa Fe who purchased them directly from the artists.
