This jewelry arrangement has earned the designation "ladderback" earrings, and the small round and domed turquoise is referred to as "snake eye" turquoise. These terms obviously were created by merchants to enhance the desirability of such earrings.

This three-tier ladderback pair starts with a silver button covering the pierced ear post. The next step is a triangular silver strip hosting three small turquoise gemstones. Attached by silver rings is a silver bar hosting three turquoise gemstones in parallel. The following section has four turquoise gemstones in parallel form. From this bar, there are four silver pendant paddles.
