Picture of Cliffton Lomayaktewa Hopi PuebloCliffton Lomayaktewa, Hopi Pueblo, Katsina/Parrot Clan, active ca. 1990-present: traditional "Old Style" carvings. Cliffton Lomayaktewa grew up at Old Oraibi. He spent much time with his grandparents who instilled in him traditional Hopi values. He later moved to his wife's village at First Mesa, and then back to Oraibi.

One day Cliffton went to visit his friend Manuel Denet Chavarria, Jr., who was carving an Old Style Katsina doll. With encouragement from Manuel, Cliffton tried his hand at carving an "Old Style" doll. This got him started, as he shared,

"I have been making Old Style Katsinas for eight years. I like the Old Styles because of how they were made traditionally, the carving style and coloring. I am glad the demand of Old Style is coming back. This gives me a chance to keep the old traditions alive. There are only a few of Old Style carver, so I am happy to be one of the few."
