Frances Manuel, Tohono O´odham (Papago), active 1930s-?: bundle coiled baskets. In 1912, Frances Manuel was born on the Tohono O´odham Reservation along the Arizona-Mexico border. In her infancy, her mother passed away. She grew up in the mesquite brush house of her father's parents where she learned from her grandparents the traditions of their desert culture. She became well known as a master basket weaver and storyteller.
