Frank Patania was Sicilian by birth but was living in Santa Fe in the 1950s. He was an internationally known silversmith and owner of the Thunderbird Studio in Santa Fe. Patania was mentor and employer to Native smiths Julian Lovato of Kewa Pueblo (Santo Domingo) and Louis Lamay from the Hopi Reservation. He helped native artisans refine gemstone setting and other techniques. His work is highly sought after by collectors familiar with Santa Fe and Tucson.
