Navajo Nation artist Baje Whitethorne Sr. was an accomplished illustrator, having illustrated award-winning children’s books. He has his work in museums world-wide and was the recipient of numerous prizes for his artwork. His son, Baje Whitethorne Jr. has followed in his father’s footsteps and is also an artist.

Baje Whitethorne Sr (1950-2023) Giggling Boy was born on August 9, 1950 on the Navajo Reservation near Shonto, Arizona.  His last known residence was Flagstaff, Arizona.  He attended Tuba City High School, Arizona; University of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff; Grand Canyon College, Phoenix; and Boilermaker National Apprenticeship Program in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Baje Whitethorne Sr. died on November 17, 2023.

He has been extensively published in regional magazines and books and his art has been used to illustrate books and for greeting cards. He has been exhibited in numerous museum and gallery shows with a solo exhibit at the Museum of Northern Arizona.  His awards are too numerous to list here but include Best in Oil Painting, 1st awards, Best of Show, Best of Division and many others.
