He spent several years living amongst Native American tribes in Montana and New Mexico before ultimately landing in Colorado Springs, CO.

Although Charles Craig (1846-1931) eventually settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he spent a brief time living and working in Taos. He lived and painted in Colorado Springs for fifty years before his passing in 1931, creating many outstanding works in the meantime. Becoming the first major Western artist to paint Taos in 1881, Charles Craig was strongly influenced by the lifestyles of cowboys and Indians on the frontier of the United States, as well as the landscapes in which they resided.
