Eugene Mitchell, Diné Silversmith
+ Add Artist to My Preferences
Diné of the Navajo Nation artist Eugene Mitchell has been an active silversmith since the pre-1970s. He specializes in sandcast jewelry with set turquoise gemstones. At present, he lives in Gallup, New Mexico.
Eugene Mitchell stamps his works with the initial M, under which is stamped STERLING. The letter T in Sterling has a shortened vertical leg, and each letter in the word appears to have been stamped individually. In Bille Hougart's massive book on Native hallmarks (see reference below), he has a similar style listed for Diné artisan Eugene Mitchell.
