Philbert Honanie (b. 1966)

Hopi Pueblo Artist & Jeweler

Philbert Honanie is an acclaimed Hopi artist residing in the historic village of Hotevilla on Third Mesa at Hopi Pueblo in Arizona. Renowned for his deep commitment to cultural preservation, Honanie has earned widespread recognition across premier Native American art venues throughout Arizona and New Mexico.

While also celebrated as an exceptional jeweler, Honanie is perhaps best known for his award-winning Katsina doll carvings. His work is highly sought after by collectors due to his adherence to the traditional "old style" of carving. Utilizing cottonwood tree roots, Honanie meticulously shapes each figure and finishes them using authentic, natural earth pigments.

To mark his craftsmanship and lineage, he distinctively signs each unique piece with his initials, PH, accompanied by the year of creation.
