Eighteen sandpaintings are illustrated in color.  Fourteen of them were from the collection of the Museum of Navajo Ceremonial Art (now The Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian), Santa Fe. They were originally collected by Mrs. Franc J. Newcomb.   Additionally, there is a photograph in color of a Navajo medicine man making a sandpainting. Explanation texts accompany each illustration.
