A Zuni Atlas

1985. University of Oklahoma Press.

From the outside cover:

To an extent much greater than . many other tribes and ethnic cultures, the Zunis have maintained their tribal traditions. Often learned by rote and passed down with great accuracy over the space of centuries, these diverse and sometimes dynamic traditions represent a rich storehouse of knowledge valuable in the study of many disciplines. This book, designed for the general reader, offers an excellent summary of Zuni tribal history, ethnology, archaeology, and contemporary development.

Based on a decade of research, A Zuni Atlas examines forty-four topics, each with a pertinent map and accompanying narrative. Historical illustrations add visual information to complement the text and maps.

Although the authors are not Zunis, the substantive new archaeological, historical, and ethnohistorical material in this book has been approved by Zuni political and religious leaders. Indeed, much of the new material originates from the Zunis themselves and has been made available to the public after long discussion and deliberation among Zuni leaders.
