The exhibition investigated issues of intercultural appropriations, representation, and transformation.  Appropriation is a form of representation that presents the cultural “other” as self, or self as other.

All the artists in this exhibition borrow icons from other New Mexico cultural traditions and manipulate these images for their own purposes.  Often the objectives of these appropriations are political and materialize as cultural criticism.
