Kathleen Whitaker, Ph.D. is the Director of the Indian Arts Research Center at the School of American Research in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  She formerly served as Chief Curator at the Southwest Museum in Los Angles and at the Sand Diego Museum of Man.  She was Adjunct Professor at California State University at San Bernardino, Professor of Anthropology at Crafton Hills College, and currently holds an appointment as a Research Associate with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Dr Whitaker has authored Common Threads, published numerous articles on southwestern weaving, and is currently working on a manuscript entitled Spirituality in Navajo Weaving, scheduled for publication in 2004.
