In 1967, Scholder decided to paint the Indian.  This book, the first chronicle of Scholder’s important work, represents the artistic manifestation of his visual and emotional perception of the Indian world he was born into.  Reproduced here in full color are twenty-five significant paintings covering a span of four years—from the beginning of Scholder’s Indian series in 1967 to 1971. Accompanying them are Scholder’s own observations on Indian art and artists.  There is an extensive section devoted to Scholder’s lithography.
