Marie Juanico (b. 1937) is a distinguished pottery artist from Acoma Pueblo and a member of the Yellow Corn Clan.

Artistic Lineage and Beginnings

Juanico's talent is directly tied to her formidable family heritage. She is the daughter of Toribio and the legendary Acoma potter Delores Sanchez (who lived to the age of 103). Her mother, Delores Sanchez, was a highly regarded artist and considered one of the best potters of her time at Acoma Pueblo.

Marie began producing her own pottery in her early 20s, carrying forward the sophisticated skills taught by her mother.

Awards and Collections

Over her career, Juanico's exceptional work has earned significant recognition:

  • Santa Fe Indian Market: She notably won 3rd Place for her pottery at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market in 2000.

  • Other Honors: She is also an award winner at both the New Mexico State Fair and the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial in Gallup.

Her acclaimed pottery is featured in galleries in Santa Fe and across New Mexico, and her work is held in the permanent collection of the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C.
