The reputation of E. (Elizabeth) Boyd (1903-1974) as the pioneer in the scholarly study of the material culture of Hispanic New Mexico is unassailable. Her deep appreciation for its Christian art rested on her training as a fine artist at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and as an art historian.
