There were several artisans at Zuni Pueblo in the mid-1900s who became famous for their carvings of small bird and animal fetishes from a variety of stones and shells.  The miniature fetishes were strung with hieshe and grouped in strings to form beautiful necklaces.  A later addition to the fetish necklace genre is fetish earrings.

This pair of earrings consists of two loops of hieshe, one longer than the other.  The longer loop has four fetishes attached and the shorter loop has two.  All six fetishes on each earring are animals and each is carved from a different material.

These earrings are provided with clamp attachments but can easily be converted to pierce as the hieshe has a loop at the top and can be attached to any style of wear.

Condition: They are unsigned and in excellent condition.

Recommended Reading: Navajo and Pueblo Earrings 1850-1945 by Robert Bauver.  This book is currently not available from Adobe Gallery
