+ Add Artist to My Preferences
Zuni Pueblo artisan Frank Vacit is known specializinged in both traditional styles of Zuni jewelry: mosaic and channel inlay. In addition to making jewelry he made plates, desk sets and letter openers.
Documented corporate collections of Vacit's jewelry are the Smithsonian and the Heard Museum, with many personal collections as well.
The fleur-de-lis hallmark on the earrings is a mark of Zuni Pueblo artisan Frank Vacit (1915-1999). Vacit sometimes collaborated with his wife, Elizabeth Leekya Vacit (? - 2005), the daughter of Leekya Deyuse, the most famous Zuni fetish carver of all times.
It has also been suggested that his daughter, Bessie, used her dad's hallmark, too. So, there may be pieces of hers that are misidentified as her dad's work.
