Manuel Hoyungowa (ca. 1953–2011) Hopi Tribe

Manuel Hoyungowa learned silver overlay technique from Preston Monongye and the Institute Of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This buckle is an excellent example of finely executed overlay work. The buckle includes design elements that are traditionally Hopi; stylized bird feathers and cloud motifs, all part of the Hopi means of calling the rain. The buckle is stamped on the back with Hoyungowa's hallmark. It will accommodate a 1-1/2 inch belt.
