Beatien Yazz, Navajo Nation Painter

Wildlife is a common motif in Beatien Yazz's work. Yazz, who was born in 1928, was no stranger to nature, since he grew up on the Navajo Reservation watching animals roam the vast reservation landscape. Yazz plucked these beautiful images from his memory and painted what he saw.

This piece depicts two deer on a mountainside most likely looking on at something behind him. It is painted on wood-relief style printed paper. The orange mixed with the gray on the brown background creates a striking work of art.

Condition: The painting is in original excellent condition. There is wear to the paper in the lower right-hand corner, but it could easily be matted out. It has never been framed and is currently shrink-wrapped for protection.

Provenance: From the collection of the family of Balcomb's Ranch Gallery, Colorado.
