Reference: Southern Pueblo Pottery: 2,000 Artist Biographies by Gregory Schaaf.Judy Lewis is a descendant of Katherine Lewis, one of two Lewis families at Acoma known for creating fine pottery.  She is the sister of Marilyn Ray and Rebecca Lucario. She learned to make pottery from her sister, Marilyn. She hand coils and pinches the figures and uses only traditional Acoma materials for clay and paints. Judy’s clay figures are painted with precise detail and have a joyful, whimsical appeal.

Judy Lewis (1966-) signatureThis small, but perfect little Nacimiento has Mary and Joseph dressed in traditional Pueblo clothing with Acoma designs painted on Mary’s skirt and manta. Baby Jesus is covered in a blanket adorned with fine-lined motifs. It is a delightful representation of the Holy Family.


Condition: The Acoma Pueblo Polychrome Three Piece Nacimiento is in excellent condition
