Cochiti Pueblo is known for figurative pottery and pottery with figurines attached.  That has been a long-standing practice at the pueblo, starting as early as 1880. This small jar is typical of such items made for sale to the tourist trade.  These items were made with the same care and attention as the larger, more significant pottery vessels.

The painted design on this jar is a stylized version of clouds, lightning and rain.  A pair of turtles was attached to the side near the rim.

Condition:  this Cochiti Pueblo Small Jar with Appliqué Turtles is very good condition

Provenance: former inventory of The Popovi Da Studio of Indian Arts, passed on to the granddaughter of Anita and Popovi Da
