Beatien Yazz can take a single figure and, through his understanding of that figure, present it in a most interesting manner. A painting of a single horse could be less than exciting, but Yazz has a technique of making it exciting. In this image, he has the horse frantically running away from something. His eye shows fear as does his nostril. The viewer immediately understands and sympathizes with the horse.
The simple landscape and clouds add to the painting but do not detract from the main focus of the horse.
The painting has just been framed after having been put away since at least 1976 when the Balcombs closed their Albuquerque gallery. The painting is framed with all archival materials and is in original condition. It is dated 1967.
