Josephine Arquero, Cochiti Pueblo Potter

Close up view of back side designMy opinion is that this figurine represents a cat but I am not absolutely sure of that. There is a long tail curled up on the back side, a tail like that of a cat.  It could represent another animal.  Regardless, it is so typical of early 20th century animal figurines by potters from Cochiti Pueblo.  There is no potter’s name associated with it, but it is attributed to Josephine Arquero.

Provenance: From the collection and estate of Santa Fe dealer, collector and artist Teal McKibben (1928-2006), who had a gallery named La Bodega on Canyon Road for decades.

Bottom of Figurine marking.

Condition: this Cochiti Pueblo Pottery Cat Figurine is in very good condition
