Brian Honyouti, Hopi Pueblo Carver

Brian Honyouti is an extraordinary carver of one-piece katsina dolls. In this Chipmunk Katsina he carved the doll in an action position and his right leg is integral to the green foliage, which provides support for the doll, as the left foot is off the ground. The wood pedestal is like a hillside with an area large enough for the young boy to hide from the katsina.

The Chipmunk Katsina carries two yucca whips and seems to be looking for someone on which to use them. The young boy is aware of what is about to happen if he is discovered.

The carving is an older one and is in original excellent condition. It is signed with the artist's initials BH carved into the pedestal.
