Seven whiptail lizards adorn this sterling silver bracelet. The bracelet has seven scalloped oval sections, each one containing a single lizard figure. The whiptail lizard is a common sight in the Southwest. The small creatures are seen in parks and playgrounds and children and adults alike delight in watching them scurry about.
The small square earrings are made in the overlay style of the Hopi and are a perfect complement to the bracelet. The artist carefully cut out a top section in the shape of a lizard and overlaid it on a background of oxidized silver.
The bracelet and earrings in this set were made by different artists, as they have different hallmarks. The bracelet has the hallmark of Harold Lomayaktewa. Hopi Pueblo artist Harold Lomayaktewa is known for his silver overlay style. He has been an active silversmith since the 1980s.
The earrings may or may not have been made by Gene Pooyouma. She is also known for the HOPI Silver Overlay technique. The hallmark on the earrings is difficult to identify.
Condition: the Hopi Overlay Lizard Bracelet and Earrings SET is in excellent condition.
