Leonard Shupla Jr. ( ?-1994)

Hallmark of artist Leonard Shupla Jr. hallmark—a cornstalk under a sun.Clouds and rain are important elements to the Hopi people. This Hopi overlay ring has the design patterns of both. Hopi artist Leonard Shupla Jr. skillfully cut out curving water and geometric cloud motifs from a band of silver and overlaid it onto another. The open spaces were then textured and oxidized creating a striking contrast between the plain silver and the cut-out designs. The ring is signed with Shupla’s hallmark—a cornstalk under a sun.

Condition: The Hopi Silver Overlay Ring with Water Design is in excellent condition.

Provenance:  The ring is from a Southwest Indian Jewelry collector in Colorado
