This beautifully executed pottery tile was made by Hopi-Tewa artist Garreth Polingyumptewa. It is a thin clay tile with rounded edges. The artist arranged a beautiful layout of designs. The diagonal bars are arrowhead shaped. Outside of the arrowheads there are geometric shapes and circles. The tips of the arrowheads are matte tan, and the remainder of the tile was executed in black.
The tile is signed on the back with the artist's name, a paw print hallmark, and the year 2002.
Garreth Polingyumptewa, an artist from the Hopi-Tewa community in Hopi Pueblo, Arizona, has carved a niche for himself in the realm of pottery. His craftsmanship is particularly celebrated for the creation of exquisitely thin pottery tiles.
