Stella Teller began her pottery career in the early 1960s. She has made vessels, nacimientos, storytellers and figurines such as bears and other animals. Her pottery is distinguished from traditional Isleta Polychrome wares by its distinctive colors, which she says are all natural. The light gray, which has become her trademark, is produced by mixing white clay with manganese. She was one of the first potters to insert turquoise cabs into the clay. Generally, her figures wear turquoise necklaces.
This two-piece set presents Baby Jesus resting in a cradleboard. He wears a white diaper and a turquoise necklace. It was made in the 1980s.
Condition: structurally in original condition.
Provenance: from the collection of a Santa Fe resident.
