Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the son of renowned Cowboy Artists of America painter William Moyers, John was surrounded by art from a young age. He studied at the Laguna Beach School of Art and the California Institute for the Arts under a Walt Disney Studio scholarship. A formative plein air workshop in British Columbia with artist Robert Lougheed helped shape his lifelong approach to observation and composition.

John Moyers (1958- ) has received wide acclaim, earning honors from the Prix de West at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum. As a long-time member and past president of the Cowboy Artists of America, he has distinguished himself with award-winning work in both oil and water media. He and his wife, artist Terri Moyers, live and paint in California, continuing to draw inspiration from annual trips to Canada, the Southwest, and Hawaii.
