Four strands of highly polished and smoothly shaped coral beads are strung with elegantly shaped turquoise to create this gorgeous Navajo necklace. When worn, the turquoise beads are set in a manner that gives the illusion of a step-like pattern of blue interspersed between the deep orange-red coral. The four strands are connected at the ends within silver cones. The necklace drapes gracefully when worn.

High quality coral has become quite rare over the last century. Coral is not a stone, it is the calcium remnants of sea creatures who live in warm water. It takes years for coral polyps to form, and once they are harvested, they are not easily replaced. Over harvesting, combined with the devastating results of pollution, has led to the scarcity of coral. This necklace dates from the late 20th century.
