Diné silversmith Verdy Jake has appreciation for traditional older Navajo jewelry and the skills to create new works with a feel of the older style. She accomplished this with this bracelet. It is a classic Diné bracelet.
The foundation of this bracelet is three silver bars—the outer two are silver strips and the center one is twisted silver wire. The beauty of the bracelet is in the six spectacular turquoise gemstones, each with a rich display of copper matrix and a beautiful burnished finish. This makes this turquoise an amazingly beautiful example specifically chosen by this artist to be a part of her creation.
Verdy Jake is a Diné silversmith and lapidary artist who obviously has a talent for picking beautiful turquoise for her jewelry. She has been an active jeweler since the 1990s. She lives at Smith Lake, north of Thoreau, New Mexico. She grew up in a family with thirteen children. Her oldest brother was a jeweler and shared his knowledge with his siblings.
